L1: Setting the purpose
Focus, Task, Consider
Setting the purpose helps set the stage for learning in Lumio. As you begin this lesson, think about the “why“. What is the objective, or learning goal, that participants will center their learning around? Additionally, consider how you will set the conditions for learning to occur. Resources are provided to support you in completing the tasks outlined below.
Note: You will build upon one Lumio file throughout the course based on the tasks outlined at the beginning of each lesson.
Getting Started
In this lesson, you are tasked with creating a highly visual learning experience and establishing the purpose for learning using Lumio. To get started, watch the video to the right to learn more about how to customize templates in Lumio.
Lumio’s ready-made activities help you check in on the well-being of your learners. A simple way to check in on students’ emotional well-being before learning may be through a whole-class whiteboard where learners can identify with how they are feeling that day. Explore the Lumio library to use one of the ready-made check-ins, or spark your thinking to create an activity that meets the emotional needs of participants prior to learning.
As you begin to plan your Lumio lesson, be mindful of the social and emotional needs of your learners. How will you take these needs into account to set the purpose for learning?
“Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.”
